Ebbs and Flows of Writing a Book

Some days I am so consumed by ideas for a draft, a character, or a chapter I can't think about anything else. Other days, the real world is so crazy and busy, I am too disconnected from the creative part of my brain. The last couple weeks have been the latter. Unfortunately, working a full time job and juggling responsibilities can really zap the life out of my writing.

Double-Edged Sword is still growing, albeit slowly. I'm finally starting to feel comfortable in the world and learn more about the characters as the draft continues to shape up. I'm hoping that after this particular busy and stressful stretch it will start to really flourish. Also, warm weather and patio writing sessions are coming, and I'm so ready for that.

A couple weeks ago, I did meet with my incredible cover artist Reese. We spent an hour discussing details and ideas for the cover of Double-Edged Sword. To say I'm excited to see what she creates is an understatement.

Although this is the least exciting part of the process for readers, I'm grateful to anyone who is interested in seeing how things happen behind the scenes. Spoiler alert: it's been a lot of me staring at my laptop and wishing the words would write themselves.

I'll leave you with one last little thing to hopefully make you laugh today. In the midst of writing a quick paced fight scene the other night, I scanned over the paragraph only to realize I had written "I snacked my sword" instead of "I snatched my sword". Imagining the way that might look had me smiling and shaking my head... sometimes my hands move faster than my brain and it shows in little typos like that.
